Why is Yoga more important in winters

The turning of the seasons in the wheel of the year brings us into direct contact with the ever-changing rhythms of the Earth, profoundly affecting our own natural way of life.

Take, for instance, the winter season. During this time, we often find comfort in the warmth of our beds, leisurely awakening to the aroma of a freshly brewed cup of coffee. It's a period when we tend to move at a slower pace, nurturing ourselves. However, this natural inclination to hibernate can sometimes lead us down to craving for sugary and fatty foods, as our bodies yearn for more energy to combat the inertia of the season. Unfortunately, indulging in these rich foods can counteract the benefits of a regular yogic workout… exacerbating our sense of lethargy further. It's a cyclical pattern, driven by changes in our subtle body, known as Sukshma Sarira. The active quality of Rajas recedes, while the lethargic quality of Tamas takes the forefront.

Yoga, however, offers a solution by guiding us to find equilibrium in these shifting conditions. Through consistent practice of Yogasanas, Pranayama, and Meditation, we can achieve a state of Samayama.

So, on those days when procrastination tempts you to skip your yoga class, gently push aside that impulse. Make a commitment to maintain your practice regularly and embrace the entirety of the winter season with renewed energy and balance.

Always remind yourself… hibernation is for Frogs!
