How to prepare for Yoga practice

For a fulfilling Yoga experience, please adhere to the following guidelines.

1. Practice on an Empty Stomach:

It's best to practice Yoga either before a meal or at least three hours after eating to ensure comfort during your practice.

2. Hydration:

Avoid excessive water consumption immediately before, during, or right after your practice. Sip water as needed to stay hydrated without overloading your system.

3. Dress Comfortably:

Wear loose-fitting, breathable cotton attire, such as a T-shirt and track pants, to allow freedom of movement.

4. Temperature Control:

In colder climates, avoid wearing too many layers as this can hinder your practice. Maintain a room temperature that is comfortable for your body but not exceeding your body temperature.

5. Climate Considerations:

In warmer, humid conditions, ensure the practice area's temperature is comfortable for your body. If using air conditioning, set it to around 30 degrees Celsius.  If you are in warmer, humid climatic conditions, ensure that the temperature maintained in practice area is comfortable to the body. Extremely low temperatures can lead to muscle contraction, making them brittle and prone to injury while excessive heat and humidity can cause excessive sweating and mineral loss leading to cramps and other issues related to mineral deficiency.

6. Avoid Comparison:

During your Yoga session, resist the urge to compare or compete with others in the group. Focus on your own practice and stay within your physical limits to prevent injury.

7. Practice Mindfully:

Practice with mindfulness and awareness of the Self. This deepens your experience and allows you to extract the maximum benefits from your practice.

Yoga, an ancient science practiced for centuries, is a path to reach the final goal of peace & happiness. Our Rishis evolved through the practice of Yoga to realise the Self - the ultimate Truth. In the modern age, the purity of classical Yoga is sometimes compromised by commercial interests, with trends like Hot Yoga, Aerial Yoga, Snowga, and more. These trends often focus on the external, physical aspect of health. For true holistic health, it's essential to embrace the classical practice of Yoga.
